Saint Sophriony Sakharov, one of the most recent saints of the Orthodox Church, glorified as saint in 2019, found out from his own spiritual experience what really means to be :„on the side and shadow of the death” (cf. Mt 4, 16). As a part of this dreadful experience, he perceived the entire tragedy of the humankind along the first and the second world war, the beginning of communist regime in Russia and also the whole extent of secularism in Western Europe. Nevertheless, after the providential meeting with Saint Silouan the Athonite at the Holy Mount Athos, Saint Sophrony begin to climb to the heights of the spiritual life, where he discovered a „grace of remmembering death”, as a special form of repentance and also the starting point of thespiritual journey from death to the everlasting life.
