Postmodern Love and the Orthodox Spiritual Perspective

The age of postmodernity, with its new relative mode of thought, individualism, and secularism, has deeply influenced the way people develop their marital relationships. This new social wave led to a disfigured image of the human being, reducing humans to passions and bioligism. The spread of the digital culture contributed to the fall of marriage and love, leading to the erosion of moral and spiritual values, lowering the standard of respect and dignity befitting human persons. The author attempts to view these developments in light of the Christian anthropology and spiritual experience of the Church, wherein the human being is seen as the image of God, and the way of love as a path to life in the Kingdom of God and a way for sanctification, fulfilling the likeness of God in deification. The author attempts to present how the pastoral care of the Church may guide people towards living this Christian vision of love and marriage as a mysterion, using the guidance of the contemporary Church saints and elders.
