The Eucharist service has always been a unique/particular form of engaging the faithful in an open dialogue with God and among themselves; through its prayers, the Church has had the opportunity to formulate and express her holistic understanding of the design of God - humankind relation. The Church old liturgical texts demonstrate that the Church itself has been shaped within the society in which was founded and the society was modeled by the Church prayer. The article below proposes for analysis/reflection some statements on areas related to the role and impact of the Eucharistic prayer on the Church social ministry and engagement for social transformation: The two-way impact of the prayer formulas between Church-Society & Society-Church dialogue & relation; The motivational elements for social ministry and social transformation as expressed in St. Basil the Great liturgical texts. The approach used - St. Basil the Great Liturgical text analysis from a holistic theological paradigm and understanding, with a special focus on soteriological formulas/statements, anthropological, Christological, ecclesio-logical and personal elements for social ministry. The analysis made supports first, the statement that the Church had a significant impact in the social life of the society while, simultaneously the society influenced the liturgical production of the Church and second, that St. Basil the Great perspective on social ministry is holistic due to theological, dogmatic, ecclesiologic and motivational elements identified in the texts. The Church liturgical thesaurus provides us with first hand data on how the Church understood and shaped its ministry for social transformation, even if this area of research is yet to be defined.
