The Eastern Tradition considers St. James, the first bishop of Jerusalem, to be the author of two Liturgies: a full Liturgy and a Presanctified Liturgy, intended to be served during the liturgical days or seasons when the celebration of the full Liturgy was forbidden. The full Liturgy of St. James was intensely studied and even celebrated on some days in the last century. The Presanctified one, however, is far less known, since it was preserved only in two Greek manuscripts and in some Georgian fragments and it is mentioned also by a circumstantial reference found in an important liturgical commentary, from the 11th century: the Protheoria. In this study we intend to offer a Romanian translation and an overview of the text preserved in the Greek manuscripts.
